Health Experts Stay MSP Airport Is 15th Healthiest In Nation

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is one of the better choices in the country for healthy eating options, according to a report released by Harvard University.

The report says that nearly 70 percent of the airport's 70 food venues offer at least one cholesterol-free, plant-based, fiber-packed meal. The report is from registered dietitians at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. That puts the Twin Cities airport at 15th in a study of 30 of the nation's busiest airports.

The study said 48 restaurants at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport offer something healthy to eat. So what are the best options here? The study said the fresh beet salad at the French Meadow Café and the quinoa salad with avocado and arugula at Cocino Del Barrio are two of the top options.

What airport is considered the best for healthy eating? The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport had a score of 92 percent with 36 of 39 restaurants offering a healthy eating option. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and the Los Angeles International Airport were also in the top three.

According to the study, about 75 percent of restaurants at 23 of the nation's busiest airports offer at least one healthy eating option. So don't just assume if you're flying that you're forced to get a cheeseburger and fries.
