Soldier Killed By Motorcyclist Honored At Haunted House Fundraiser

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Saturday night a haunted house helped to honor a young soldier killed by a motorcyclist in Elko New Market.

Support Our Troops Haunted House in Farmington hosts an annual fundraiser to raise money for care packages for troops.

At the end of the walk Saturday, there was a memorial for 24-year-old Mollie Mahowald, who died last month. She was standing on the side of the road waiting fora ride home when she was struck by a motorcyclist.

Mahowald was the first woman soldier in combat to receive a care package from the organization.

"They don't get a lot of correspondence or always feel that people are thinking about them," Mollie's father Pete Mahowald said. "So to have a massive shipment of packages and just little knick knacks and goodies is really something that they enjoy."

The organization also donated $500 to her family for Mollie's funeral expenses.
