Harteau To Be Reappointed As Minneapolis Police Chief
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges says she wants Police Chief Janeé Harteau to stay on for another three years.
The announcement comes after weeks of speculation that Hodges has been looking outside the department to find a replacement for Harteau.
Hodges said Wednesday the chief's vision for the department and the community is strong.
Police Federation President Bob Kroll says this is good news for the rank and file.
"We know what we're getting. I mean, if you go outside you never know what you're going to get," Kroll said. "Her and I have, it's new but we've established a relationship. We're not always going to agree on everything, but, you know, she's given us a voice and a seat at the table at things."
Chief Harteau released a state Wednesday on the renomination.
"I am proud to have the opportunity to continue to lead such a professional and committed department, and I am excited to see how we will build upon our recent successes," Harteau said.
Hodges has forwarded the chief's name to the executive committee for renomination.
The Minneapolis City Council will likely vote on Harteau's reappointment in November.
