Couple Responsible For Hannah's Law Face Theft Charges

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A family who changed daycare laws after their daughter died now faces charges for illegally taking thousands of taxpayer dollars.

Justin and Jennifer Kozitza are accused of hiding a settlement worth nearly a million dollars.

They were awarded the money after their daughter, Hannah, died from chocking on a grape at daycare.

The criminal complaint says they received more than $2,300 from Nicollet County Social Services from November 2013 through February.

A fraud investigator discovered they also concealed a cabin, several vehicles and other possessions.

According to the court documents, Jennifer told a fraud investigator they had spent their settlement and she didn't know she needed to reveal those assets.
