Hagedorn Upsets Endorsed Miller In 1st District

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Jim Hagedorn has pulled off an upset in his party's 1st District primary for Congress.

Hagedorn beat endorsed candidate Aaron Miller in Tuesday's primary.

Hagedorn is a businessman who also once served as legislative assistant to a former Minnesota congressman. His father also once represented southern Minnesota in Congress.

Hagedorn attributes his victory to the sheer amount of travel time he spent meeting Republican voters all over the district. He tells The Free Press (http://bit.ly/1uriwSA ) that shaking hands and talking in person was critical to his campaign. He says he also focused on rural areas, especially in the western side of the district, that are often overlooked by campaigns.

He'll face Democratic Rep. Tim Walz, who is seeking his fifth term in Congress.
