DECORAH, Iowa (AP) — An administrator at St. Olaf College in Minnesota has been chosen as president of Luther College in northeast Iowa.

The Luther College Board of Regents announced Friday that it had selected Paula J. Carlson as the Decorah college's 10th president.

Carlson has been working as vice president for mission at St. Olaf in Northfield.

Carlson will begin her position at Luther College on July 1. She will fill a position that had been held on an interim basis by David Tiede, who took on that role after Richard L. Torgerson left the position in June 2013.

Carlson is a scholar of medieval literature and modern American literature. She also previously worked at the University of Dubuque in Iowa.

Luther is a liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,500.
