Guard Unit From Litchfield Returns

LITCHFIELD, Minn. (AP) -- Nearly 90 Minnesota National Guard members return home after an 11-month deployment to Afghanistan.

A homecoming ceremony will be held Tuesday for the 849th Mobility Augmentation Company, based in Litchfield. The unit cleared explosives from supply routes in support of the Afghan National Security Forces. The company had an important role in this year's Afghan presidential elections by helping establish a voter polling site.

Five members of the company were hurt during an attack on Forward Operating Base Pasab in Kandahar Province last January. All survived.

The homecoming ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Litchfield Civic Center.
