Group Loses Court Battle With DNR Over Mille Lacs Restrictions

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group suing the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources over tighter fishing restrictions on Lake Mille Lacs lost their battle in court Tuesday.

A judge ruled that the DNR's decision to impose an emergency night fishing ban, and tighter walleye limits, is valid.

The group "Save Mille Lacs" filed the lawsuit claiming the DNR ignored a constitutional amendment, and did not seek public input.

Some area businesses say the rules have devastated the area, forcing anglers to fish elsewhere.

They claim the DNR has mismanaged the lake for years.

The group now says they plan to take the issue to state lawmakers.
