'Great Bull Run' Stampedes Into Elk River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Running of the Bulls is a popular event every year in Spain – but there's no need to travel to Europe if you want the thrill.

The Great Bull Run is coming to the Elk River Extreme Motor Park Saturday. There will be several running of the bulls throughout the day starting at 11:30 a.m.

The run is a quarter mile, and 25 bulls run the entire way.

Rob Dickens, co-owner of the event, says the bulls tend to run down the center of the track - but anything can happen.

"They're thrill seekers, people who want to test themselves against real danger and see how they perform," Dickens said. "Are they brave? Do they stand their ground? Or do they head to the fences as soon as they see a bull?" Dickens said.

Organizers planned to do a test run Friday, but the track was too wet from the rain. The festival ends with a big tomato fight.

The cost is $75 if you want to run and toss the tomatoes, and it's $15 if you just want to watch.
