Grandstand Hosts State Fair Amateur Contest Finals

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- People who spent the day at the Minnesota State Fair saw some rain showers off and on during the day.

But fortunately, it did not disrupt a big event at the Grandstand Sunday night. It's an event as legendary as corn dogs and cotton candy. The Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest is where Minnesotans get to strut their stuff in the battle to be crowned Minnesota's top talent.

From singers to cloggers, 26 of the most talented took the stage tonight to decide who is best. The finalists were made up of nightly first place winners during the week.

The Leini Lodge Bandshell is the venue where they are judged. Sunday night, there were plenty of talented performers that hit the big stage but only one was named the winner. The honors went to Family Three. Their vocal and guitar performance was chosen Minnesota's top talent.

There were big prizes for Sunday night's winners. In the teen and pre-teen divisions the winner walks away with a $1,000 first prize. In the Open division, the winner gets $4,000 and an opportunity to negotiate a contract to appear at the 2016 Minnesota State Fair as a featured entertainer.
