GOP's Johnson Has $866K Ready For Governor's Race

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson says he has $866,000 in the bank for his campaign to defeat Gov. Mark Dayton.

Fundraising reports that cover the two-month period from mid-July to mid-September were due to be released Wednesday morning, but Johnson announced in an email Tuesday his campaign pulled in about $1 million during that period.

More than a third of that comes from the state's public campaign subsidy.

That sum brings his total raised since entering the race to $1.5 million.

Dayton's campaign has not yet released its fundraising totals, but he and outside Democratic groups have already reserved millions of dollars in ads. Johnson has said he hopes to be on the air by month's end.
