Gophers Top St. Cloud State 4-1 In North Star College Cup

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Adam Wilcox made 38 saves in net as the No. 1-ranked Gophers hockey team beat No. 5-ranked St. Cloud State 4-1 Friday night in the North Star College Cup at Xcel Energy Center.

Minnesota improved to 18-2-3 with the win and advanced to Saturday night's championship game of the all-Minnesota tournament. The Gophers will face Minnesota-Duluth, which beat Minnesota State-Mankato 5-4 in overtime of the first game.

Travis Boyd scored in the first period to give the Gophers an early 1-0 lead. With the game tied 1-1 in the second period, Nate Condon and Hudson Fasching scored goals four minutes apart to give the Gophers a 3-1 lead. Seth Ambroz scored an empty-net goal with 30 seconds left in regulation for the final tally.

The Gophers and Bulldogs play for the North Star College Cup title at 7 p.m. Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.
