Gophers To Face Wake Forest In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota men's basketball team finalized its match-up on Tuesday for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in early December.

The Gophers will head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and face Wake Forest at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in a contest that will be televised nationally on ESPNU. It will be the seventh meeting between the two schools, with the current series tied 3-3. Most recently, the Gophers beat the Demon Deacons 73-58 in the opening round of the 2006 National Invitation Tournament.

Minnesota is 7-8 all time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, including three straight wins. Last year, the Gophers beat Florida State at Williams Arena.

The Gophers are coming off an NIT title in 2014 and a school-record 25 wins in Richard Pitino's first season as head coach. They return four starters and eight letter-winners from last year's squad.

The top match-ups for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge include Syracuse at Michigan and Ohio State at Louisville on Tuesday, Dec. 2. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the featured games are Michigan State at Notre Dame and Duke at Wisconsin.
