Gophers Seniors Bartnik, Brandt Earn Big Ten Medal Of Honor

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota seniors Aaron Bartnik and Hannah Brandt earned the Big Ten's Medal of Honor, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the top senior male and female athletes at each school in the Big Ten.

Brandt, a Vadnais Heights native, helped lead the Gopher women's hockey team to its seventh national title this year. She was a part of three national championships in her four years with the Gophers. Brandt finished her career as the Gophers all-time leading scorer with 285 points. That consists of 115 goals and 170 assists.

Bartnik, a cross country and track and field athlete from Eden Prairie, earned All-Big Ten and All-Region honors twice with the Gophers. He helped lead the Gophers to an NCAA Championships appearance this year in cross country and ranks sixth all-time in the 3,000-meter run.
