Gophers To Retire Rachel Banham's Jersey Jan. 1

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rachel Banham will go down as one of the greatest players in the history of the University of Minnesota women's basketball program.

Banham currently holds the Gophers all-time scoring record, and her jersey will be retired later this season. School officials said Wednesday her No. 1 jersey will be put up in the rafters of Williams Arena when the Gophers host Maryland in Big Ten action on Jan. 1, 2017.

After recovering from a torn ACL, Banham was named the Big Ten Player of the Year last season. She set single-game, season and career scoring records with the Gophers. Her single-game record came in a win at Northwestern where she scored 60 points.

She scored 3,023 career points, breaking Lindsay Whalen's 12-year-old record and is the only Big Ten women's player with at least 3,000 career points.
