Gophers Rau, Wilcox Earn Big Ten Honors After Sweep Of Michigan

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After a big weekend in a sweep of Michigan, University of Minnesota senior Kyle Rau was named the Big Ten's Second Star of the Week on Tuesday.

Rau scored four goals on the weekend as the Gophers beat Michigan 6-2 and 2-0 at Mariucci Arena. The two wins put Minnesota in a first-place tie with the Wolverines in the Big Ten standings.

Rau netted a hat trick on only three shots on goal in Friday night's 6-2 win. He also scored an empty-net goal Saturday to seal the weekend sweep. With his first goal Friday, Rau notched his 150th career point with the Gophers.

It's the fourth Big Ten Conference honor for Rau in his career and second this season.

After giving up just two goals on the weekend, goalie Adam Wilcox was also named the Big Ten's Third Star of the Week. He made 47 saves on the weekend with a .959 save percentage.

Wilcox made 26 saves Saturday night in the Gophers' shutout victory. He leads the Big Ten with 16 wins, including four shutouts this season. He has 11 for his career, which is the second-most in school history.

The Gophers travel to Penn State this weekend.
