Gophers' Murphy Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota forward Jordan Murphy had a big week for the Gopher basketball team in a victory over Clemson and a loss to South Dakota.

Murphy was named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week on Monday. He scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Gophers last Monday in an 89-83 win over Clemson that was part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

On Saturday, Murphy scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Minnesota lost to South Dakota, 85-81, in double overtime. He also had three assists and two steals in the game. He had a tip-in basket in the closing seconds of regulation that sent the game to overtime.

Murphy currently ranks fourth among Big Ten freshmen in scoring at 10.5 points per game and is third in rebounding at 7.5 per game. The Gophers host South Dakota State at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Arena.
