Gophers' King Named Big Ten Co-Player Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Senior forward Joey King is off to a fast start as the University of Minnesota men's basketball team is 2-0 after wins over the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Louisiana-Monroe.

King was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week Monday, sharing the league honor with Alex Olah of Northwestern.

King averaged 21 points and six rebounds per game in each of the Gophers' two victories over the week. He scored a career-high 22 points against UM-Kansas City on 7-of-10 shooting, including six 3-pointers, and grabbed four rebounds. He added 20 points and eight rebounds in the win over Louisiana-Monroe.

It's the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for King, a native of Eagan, Minn.

The Gophers face Temple on Thursday in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic.
