Gophers' Coffey Named Big 10 Freshman Of The Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Amir Coffey is off to an impressive start with the University of Minnesota men's basketball team, and he was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.

Coffey, a former prep star at Hopkins, scored 30 points Friday night as the Gophers beat St. John's 92-86 to improve to 4-0 on the season. He shot 9-of-14 from the field in the win and was also 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

For the week, Coffey averaged 16.7 points and four rebounds per game in wins over the Red Storm, Texas-Arlington and Mount St. Mary's. He's currently leading the Gophers in scoring with 15.8 points per game.

The Gophers host Arkansas at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Arena.
