Gophers LB Coach Mike Sherels Released From Hospital

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota linebackers coach Mike Sherels has recovered well enough from a medical ailment to be released from the hospital.

Coach Tracy Claeys confirmed Monday that Sherels is home, with some "light at the end of the tunnel" surrounding his undisclosed health problem. Claeys said there's no timetable for a return to the team for Sherels, who was entering his third season coaching Gophers linebackers. The coach said Sherels is in "a lot better situation" than he was earlier this month.

Sherels had surgery Aug. 9, his second operation for a condition the university and his family have kept private. Keith Jordan was named acting linebackers coach last week.

The 31-year-old Sherels played for the Gophers from 2003-07.
