Loss To Texas A&M Eliminates Gophers Baseball Team

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Joel Davis and Ryne Birk had two RBIs apiece, and Mark Ecker struck out the final four Minnesota batters to help Texas A&M beat the Gophers 8-2 on Sunday night and win the NCAA Tournament's College Station Regional.

Texas A&M (48-14) took the lead on a two-run triple by Davis in the second inning. A RBI groundout by Hunter Melton and a sacrifice fly by Austin Homan in the fourth made it 4-0.

Austin Athmann had RBIs in the sixth and eighth innings to pull Minnesota within 5-2, but Ecker closed out the eighth before the Aggies scored three in the top of ninth. Ecker then struck out the side in the bottom for his eighth save.

Turner Larkins (3-0) allowed five hits and one run over 5 2/3 inning for the win.

Athmann finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Minnesota (36-22).
