Gophers' Banham Named To John R. Wooden Award List

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota women's basketball senior guard Rachel Banham was selected Monday to the Preseason Top 30 list for the John R. Wooden Award.

The list is made up of 30 players who are the early front-runners for college basketball's top player of the year. Banham was ranked No. 5 on the list and was also named a Second-Team All-American. The senior was also selected the Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year.

The Gophers are off to a 3-0 start, and Banham is averaging 19.7 points and 7.3 assists per game in the process. Banham become the fourth player in school history to record her 2,000th point, which happened in the Gophers' season opener, and is currently third all-time at Minnesota. Lindsay Whalen is the all-time leading scorer with 2,285 points.
