Gophers Add Davonte Fitzgerald To Complete 2015 Class

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota men's basketball team added Davonte Fitzgerald to its 2015 class on Tuesday, coach Richard Pitino announced.

Fitzgerald is transferring to Minnesota after two seasons at Texas A&M. He's a 6 foot, 7 inch 209-pound forward who will have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules. After that, he will have two years of eligibility starting in 2016.

"We are excited about Davonte being a Gopher," Pitino said. "He has two years of experience playing at an extremely high level. A year off will serve him well as he gets healthy. He has great size and ability."

Fitzgerald appeared in 49 games with six starts for the Aggies over two seasons. He was averaging 7.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as a freshman before missing the final 10 games with a knee injury. He played in 25 games last year.

He's the seventh member of the Gophers 2015 recruiting class.
