Gopher Women's Hockey Team Invited To White House

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Barack Obama has invited the University of Minnesota women's hockey team to the White House.

Obama will recognize national championship teams in a formal ceremony Monday on the South Lawn.

The Gophers compiled a 62-game winning streak from 2011 to 2013, capping a 41-0-0 record in 2013 with their second straight national championship.

In the 2012-13 perfect season, Minnesota became the first women's Division I team to finish the season unbeaten. The Gophers beat Boston University 6-3 for the national championship on March 24, 2013, at Ridder Arena.

The Minnesota travel party will leave Sunday from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and return Monday evening to prepare for the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
