Gopher Women Use Big Second Half To Beat Spartans, 86-79

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota women's basketball team was in desperate need of a win Sunday, having lost four of its past five games before hosting Michigan State.

The Gophers recovered from an early 19-10 deficit to tie the game 37-37 at the half. Minnesota used a big second half run to pull away from the Spartans for an 86-79 victory at Williams Arena. Freshman Carlie Wagner led Minnesota with 25 points, 21 of which came in the second half.

Shae Kelley added 16 points and 13 rebounds for Minnesota. Amanda Zahui B. also had a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

The Gophers improved to 18-6 overall, 7-5 in the Big Ten Conference with the victory.

Minnesota hosts Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena.
