Gopher Women Suffer First Home Loss, 72-53 To New Mexico

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota women's basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season on Wednesday, 72-53 to New Mexico.

Senior Rachel Banham scored 22 points in the loss. It was her ninth straight game where she scored at least 20 points. She was also 8-for-10 at the free-throw line and had three steals.

Carlie Wagner added 16 points and has scored in double figures in every game this season. She also led the Gophers in the loss with seven rebounds. Mikayla Bailey added nine points and four rebounds.

The Gophers (8-3) shot just 30 percent from the field in the loss. Minnesota hosts North Dakota next Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Williams Arena.
