Gopher Hockey Ties Michigan State 2-2, Falls In Shootout
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Michigan State Friday night at Mariucci Arena, but the Gophers lost 2-1 in a shootout.
The Gophers (18-2-5) overcame an early 2-0 deficit and cut in half with a power-play goal from Hudson Fasching late in the first period. After three goals in the first period, there was no more scoring until late in regulation.
With less than six minutes left, Justin Kloos tipped in a shot with assists from Brady Skjei and Justin Holl to tie the game 2-2. Both teams had chances down the stretch and in overtime, but the result was a tie.
Michigan State scored two goals in the shootout to win it. Taylor Cammarata scored the Gophers' only goal of the shootout. Adam Wilcox made 28 saves in the game.
The two teams square off again at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mariucci Arena to finish the weekend series.
