Gopher Basketball Player Won't Face Charges In Alleged Sexual Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A University of Minnesota basketball player accused of sexual assault back in May will not face criminal charges in the case, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Reggie Lynch, an Edina native and transfer out of Illinois State, was arrested on May 8 on suspicion of criminal sexual assault involving a 19-year-old woman. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Monday that Lynch will not face charges in the case. Authorities say there was insufficient evidence to prove that a crime was committed.

Coach Richard Pitino had suspended Lynch while the incident was investigated. He could participate in team events, but could not practice or do any basketball activities. His status with the team remains uncertain.

Lynch was expected to be a significant contributor for the Gopher basketball team this upcoming season and was the favorite to start at center.
