Google Express Expands To Twin Cities, Beyond

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Google is now expanding its home delivery service to Minnesotans in the Twin Cities and beyond.

Google Express, a service that was already available in Rochester and other U.S. cities, is now being offered in metro suburbs, as well as in Duluth and St. Cloud, the Pioneer Press reports.

The service gets various consumer goods – from groceries to dog toys to paper towels – and delivers them to a customer's doorstep.

Big name retailers such as Costco, PetsMart, Whole Foods Market and Barnes & Nobles have partnered with the California-based tech giant in supplying the home-delivery service.

However, this is not quick delivery service. A shipment will typically take two days in Minnesota.

So, what's it cost?

Google is offering the service for $95 per year. However, that excludes delivery for large, bulky items, and there's also a $3 charge for orders that don't meet the service's minimum-purchase requirement.

Google Express is not currently offering liquor deliveries in Minnesota, although it does so in other states.

Google is now competing in the Twins Cities home delivery space with several other companies, Amazon biggest among them.

The Seattle-based company launched its one-hour delivery service in the Twin Cities last year.

Recently, the company announced liquor delivery sales through Surdyk's and free restaurant delivery for its Amazon Prime members.
