Golf Channel's David Feherty Hosts 'Countdown To The Ryder Cup' In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- As you may have heard, the Twin Cities will play host to the 2016 Ryder Cup. The premiere golfing event will be held at Hazeltine Sept. 27 through Oct. 2 next year.

But Monday night, more than 2,000 Minnesota golf fans crowded into The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Minneapolis for a "Countdown to the Ryder Cup" event, hosted by eccentric Golf Channel personality David Feherty.

"It's great to see Feherty here," golf fan Lee Winter said at the event. "It's great to see him loosen up the crowd."

"I love watching his shows, his jokes, and watching people's interviews," Brock Winter, another fan, said.

Feherty is a former Ryder Cup golfer, himself.

"There might be only two real trophies in sports," he said. "That would be the Stanley Cup and the Ryder Cup."

He sat down with Ryder Cup captains Davis Love III and Darren Clarke. When it came to Hazeltine, Feherty said it will be better than par for the course.

"It's very seldom that you get a great course with a great venue, and that's what this is," he said. "There's so much room and each hole is its own separate little golf exam."

It's the competition that Feherty says will make Hazeltine special.

"It's bragging rights. It's 'Na nah na nah na.' It's, 'I won it rather than you,'" he said. "That's what kids do on the playground and it's what these big kids will do at Hazeltine."

Feherty didn't just talk golf, he called the Orpheum the best theatre he has ever done a show in.
