Gitty Up On The Rocking S Equine Express

MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. (WCCO) -- Just 30 minutes outside of Minneapolis, rolling hills and the Luce Line trail offer escape from city living.

Rather than a run or walk the winding trails, I had a different mode of transportation in mind.

Suzy Mernik of the Rocking S Equine Express takes a unique approach to her horseback riding tours. You choose your favorite trail and Mernik brings the horses.

"I would have to say … it's custom to what the person wants, and it's much more scenic," Mernik said.

This is an opportunity for both the experienced and rookie rider, with a pace that allows you to take in nature.

Mernik is there the whole way to guide you through. And once the ride comes to an end, the experience isn't over.

"I think the big draw is … the food at the end of the trail ride," she said.

A gourmet meal is waiting for you, and it's from a menu of your choice.

"Whether you're gluten free, vegetarian, whether you like meat, it doesn't matter. I can customize a menu for you," she said.

It's a different take on the tradition horseback tour. And at the very least, you leave with a full stomach.
