Sheriff: Girl, 12, Who Drowned Near Alexandria ID'd

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 12-year-old girl died Friday in an apparent drowning in a water channel near Alexandria, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the incident happened Friday in a water channel between Lake Cowdry and Lake Darling. The girl was identified Monday as JaLysa Anne Cook of Alexandria.

She was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. What led up to the drowning is under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
