Girl, 11, Hospitalized After Nearly Drowning In Hopkins

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An 11-year-old girl is in the hospital Tuesday night after nearly drowning in an apartment swimming pool in Hopkins.

Police were called just after 4 p.m. to the Creekwood Apartments on the 1300 block of Lake Street Northeast.

The girl was taken to a local hospital, but her condition has not been released as of Tuesday night.

Witnesses at the scene say they saw paramedics performing CPR on the girl beside the pool for several minutes.

It is unclear if the girl had a chaperone with her when she was swimming.

An apartment resident says a maintenance crew member pulled the girl out of the pool. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office would only say a bystander pulled her out.

Apartment residents are shaken by the incident.

"They need to have supervision by the parents or have noodles or life jackets on," resident Joy Cabillot said.

Several residents say the girl had gone into the deep end of the pool. where she was unable to swim.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
