Get Prepared During Severe Weather Awareness Week

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- While it may feel like we just got rid of the snow, it's already time to start thinking about severe spring and summertime weather.

This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota. This is the time when you and your family should make an emergency plan. Or if you already have one, this is the week to practice it.

You might also want to review the emergency plans at your kids' school, your workplace, or other places you spend a lot of time at, other than at home.

Also think about creating an emergency kit. Some good things to include in the kit are:

-- Nonperishable foods
-- Water
-- Radio
-- A flashlight and batteries
-- A first aid kit
-- Dust masks
-- A whistle

Two of the most important events during Severe Weather Awareness Week are the annual statewide tornado drills. These drills are scheduled for Thursday at 1:45 p.m. and 6:55 p.m.
