General Mills Cuts 1,000 Jobs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- General Mills is cutting about 1,000 jobs throughout the world.

The Golden Valley-based multinational company made the announcement Wednesday, saying the cuts are part of a plan to restructure their global supply chain.

The most cuts are coming to Brazil with the closure of their facility in São Bernardo do Campo. Production will transfer to another General Mills facility in Brazil, but about 420 workers will lose their jobs.

General Mills is also closing their manufacturing plant in Vineland, New Jersey, resulting in the loss of 370 jobs. One-hundred-and-eighty workers are also now unemployed in Martel, Ohio after the company decided to sell their plant to another milling company.

And 300 workers in Nanjing, China are out after the company decided to stop making fruit snacks in the county. That facility will still produce "Bugles" snack foods.

General Mills, founded in Minneapolis in 1866, is in its sesquicentennial year.
