Here's how to save on gas in the Twin Cities as prices rise
Minnesota continues to beat the national gas price average, but there are still ways to save in the metro area.
Gas prices are at their highest level since 2022.
Warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam's Club typically offer members gas 10 to 30 cents lower than the local average. But a new concept in Plymouth is taking those savings even further.
"As far as we know, there's no one else that does a membership with a car wash and fuel," said Terri Gerring, a manager at Members Car Wash and Fuel.
The monthly membership unlocks discounted gas well below average with unlimited car washes.
"I take the average cost of gas in Plymouth, and our gas today is 61 cents lower than the average," said Gerring.
As prices rise nationwide, the interest is growing.
"We've had a lot of inquiries about it, we think we offer good savings for customers," Gerring said.
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kingdom Embassy Worship Center is giving away $30 for free gas to the first 600 cars that show up to the Amoco on Brooklyn Boulevard in Brooklyn Park, as well as the Shell on Sixth Avenue South in Hopkins.
It allows Midnite Market, a local business, to give back alongside the church.
"They want to be, you know, very generous. I mean, you can't ask for more than that. So we thought, what a great, great event before Easter. So we had talked to some of our local vendors, and so we have some giveaways too," said Kelly Magnuson with Midnite Market.
It's a welcome break as higher prices continue to impact spending. You can also stack savings using grocery store fuel rewards, credit cards or loyalty programs.
