Gas Prices Continue To Decline
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you're heading out of town for the holiday weekend, now might be a good time to fill up on gas.
The average cost of a gallon of gas in Minnesota is $3.33.
That's down from $3.49 one year ago.
"I think they're not as horrible as they have been recently and I've noticed it," Peg Roloff, from Cottage Grove, said.
Gas prices peaked across the U.S. in the last week of June. They hit $3.65 in Minnesota, but have been going down since.
"By and large national average and prices in the Twin Cities have continued to drop since peaking," GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said.
DeHaan says the downward trend is thanks to an increase in the U.S. producing more oil at home, but primarily due to the drop in crude oil prices.
"A lot of that has to do with a lack of hurricanes, geopolitical tensions have failed to make any difference," he said.
The average cost of gas across the country has gone down 23 cents in the last nine weeks.
Drivers hope that trend continues.
"I hope it keeps going down, let's hope and pray for that," Devyn Woodard, from Minneapolis, said.
