Gas Prices Are On The Rise
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After gas dipped below $2 last month, prices have begun to rise.
Statewide Monday morning, Minnesotans are paying $0.17 more than we were one week ago. The average now sits at $2.41 a gallon. A month ago, it was $1.99.
Unlike the drop several months ago, the spike in prices is not because of the price of crude oil.
It's because refineries are shutting down for regular maintenance and to switch over to summer blends, which cost more to produce.
It doesn't help that there was an explosion at a refinery in California last week, along with a steelworkers strike at a dozen other sites.
But to put this into perspective, gas prices are still a dollar cheaper than they were at this time last year.
