Gamers Play For A Cause At 'Extra Life'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gamers around the world are taking part in the 24-hour event known as "Extra Life" to raise money for children's hospitals.
Gamers turned on their screens and picked up their controls at 8 a.m. Saturday in Bloomington. They play, while their families and friends donate.
The average gamer raises $100 for his or her hospital of choice.
Around 100 people gathered at The Nerdery in Bloomington, all of whom are playing for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul.
The custom software design and development company raised $18,000 last year for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
The team's goal Saturday is $25,000.
"It's about the kids and having fun, making sure that we raise as much money as possible," Troy Cleland, team organizer and Nerdery Employee, said.
The money is used for research, training, equipment and medical care.
