Fundraiser Held For 4-Year-Old Girl Killed In Fire

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The death of a 4-year-old girl in a St. Paul house fire last weekend brought neighbors and friends of the family out Sunday night for a fundraiser.

The father of little NtshiaLiag Yang was able to rescue his four other children as well as his wife and mother, but the intense smoke and flames prevented him from saving her as well. Sunday night, Peter Yang continued to share his remorse while others recognized him as a leader in the Hmong community.

"I saved my 85-year-old mother, my four daughters, my wife, but I cannot save one. I feel so guilty because I am her father," Peter Yang said.

"He is just devastated. He kept telling me he wishes it was him instead of his daughter because she had so much to live for," family friend Salina Vang said.

The Yang family lost all of their belongings in the fire. There is an online fundraising site set up for the family. Here's how to donate to the Chialia Memorial Benefit Fund.
