Franken Ups His Campaign Bank Balance To $5.9M

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Sen. Al Franken has nearly $6 million in reserve as his re-election bid heads deeper into campaign season.

Franken's campaign released totals Friday for the first three months of 2014. The first-term Democrat reported raising $2.72 million, leaving him with $5.9 million in cash on hand as of April 1.

Franken's campaign says the money came through 76,000 separate contributions, most of which were less than $100.

Republicans have yet to settle on a nominee and may not until an August primary. None of them have posted their most recent fundraising figures and they have until next week to do so.

Leading contenders for the GOP nomination are: St. Louis County Commissioner Chris Dahlberg, businessman Mike McFadden and state Sen. Julianne Ortman.
