Franken Asks DOJ To Address ISIL Recruitment
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Senator Al Franken wrote a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) asking them to address recruitment efforts of the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Sen. Franken said in the letter that the DOJ needs to take action to prevent Americans from joining ISIL, and also to prevent Americans from reentering the country if they have fought with ISIL.
Franken wishes for resources to be used in areas like Minnesota, where he said recruitment efforts have been happening at a higher rate.
"In my experience, no one is more upset about young members of their communities going to fight alongside our enemies than are those communities themselves. Minnesotans of all backgrounds and faiths are committed to seeing this evil eradicated and justice being done," Franken said in the letter.
The letter also stated Franken's concerns that President Obama had not yet developed a comprehensive plan to addressing the growing threat of ISIL.
