Foss Lake Fire 95 Percent Contained

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A fire in northeastern Minnesota that has been burning for over a week is now 95 percent contained, according to the Minnesota Incident Command System.

The fire, located about 10 miles west of Ely, reached 1,000 acres last week. Several organizations, including the MNICS and hotshot crews, have been working in concert to contain the fire. About 163 personnel are fighting the fire, MNICS said.

MNICS also said that weekend weather condition should mean minimal fire behavior. They will remove firefighters from the southern portion of the fire on Friday. Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire on ground and by air.

Officials said small amounts of smoke may appear over the weekend as heat pockets are extinguished.
