Fort Snelling Declared National Treasure

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The historic Fort Snelling has now been declared a National Treasure.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced the declaration Wednesday morning.

Fort Snelling, which was built in the 1820s, is the first site in Minnesota to be declared a National Treasure.

The Minnesota Historical Society is asking the Legislature for $34 million to create a new visitors' center at Fort Snelling.
