Fort Hood Shooting Brings Back Painful Memories For Local Widow

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In 2009, 13 people were killed in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas.

Minnesota Pvt. 1st Class Kham Xiong was one of the victims. Shoua Her of North St. Paul was married to Xiong.

After finding out about the latest shooting on Wednesday, she spoke with WCCO.

"My heart goes out to the families affected by this incident," Her said.

She says she had been running errands and was late to hear the news.

"It's like déjà vu. It just brought back memories of that day on Nov. 5," she said. "All that pain, all those memories just flooded right back. Words just can't describe how I'm feeling right now."

Her says she remembers what it was like to be a victim, and can imagine what the victims' families are going through Wednesday night.

"Anxiety, panic attacks, the agony, the fear to hear how your loved one is, the condition," she said.

Her says she would be happy to help in any way, but until then, she'll be thinking of those involved in this tragedy.

"I'll be keeping the families in my prayers," Her said.
