Former Viking Mick Tingelhoff Elected To Pro Football Hall Of Fame

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Former Minnesota Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday, making him the 13th player in team history to do so.

Tingelhoff was selected to the hall of fame by the Hall's Board of Electors. Tingelhoff will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 8, 2015. He will be part of a group that includes Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Bill Polian, Junior Seau, Will Shieldsa and Ron Wolf.

Tingelhoff went in front of the hall's Board of Directors after having been out of football for more than 25 years while still having credentials. He joined the Vikings as a free agent in 1962. He started all 240 regular season games and 19 playoff games during his 17 years in the NFL. He helped the Vikings to 10 division titles and four Super Bowl appearances.

"After beginning his career as an undrafted free agent, Mick went on to become one of the most durable players in NFL history. His streak of 240 consecutive starts over 17 seasons is a testament to his passion and commitment to the game and is worthy of the Hall of Fame. On behalf of the Vikings, congratulations to Mick on this well-deserved honor," Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf said.
