Former U Of M Student Detained In Thailand

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A photojournalist who attended the University of Minnesota has been released on bail in Thailand where he was detained for possessing body armor and a helmet.

A license to possess body armor is needed in Thailand where it's considered military equipment. Anthony Kwan is covering the aftermath of the bombing that left 20 dead in Bangkok. He's working for Initium Media Technology.

Kwan was detained Sunday at the Thai capital's airport before he boarded a flight to Hong Kong. He was freed on bail Monday. Kwan worked on the Minnesota Daily newspaper while he attended the University of Minnesota.
