Former Teacher Pleads Guilty To Sex With Students

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Washington County officials say a 36-year-old former teacher from Stillwater, Minn., pleaded guilty to having sex with two students at his home.

Matthew Robert Koenen pleaded guilty in court Monday to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, the county attorney's office said.

Prosecutors will ask that he serve 120 days in jail. He'll also be put on probation for seven years, be ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation and respect a no contact order.

Koenen is slated to be sentenced in December.

Last November, the former teacher was accused of having sexual relationships with two 16-year-old girls who attended Grantsburg High School, a western Wisconsin school where Koenen taught.

According to a criminal complaint, one of those relationships lasted more than six months. After it ended, the girl involved told school officials, and Koenen was asked to resign.

Koenen hid the relationships from his wife, the complaint states, by using three different email accounts and two cell phones.
