Former Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Dies At 51

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A western Wisconsin man, considered by many to be a true inspiration, passed away on Monday.

We first met Mike Seversen in the Fall of 2010 when his friends took him deer hunting. Seversen was shot in the neck in the line of duty when he was 27 years old. He was a Polk County Sheriff's Deputy at the time.

He went on to serve on the St. Croix Falls Planning Commission for 12 years and spoke often to school groups.

He met President Clinton while raising awareness for wounded and fallen police officers.

Seversen was 50 years old.

Seversen's death is classified as a line of duty death -- a full honors law enforcement funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at the St. Croix Falls High School. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
