Former Minneapolis Mayor Albert Hofstede Dies At 75

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Albert Hofstede, the former mayor of Minneapolis, has died at the age of 75.

Hofstede passed away on Saturday surrounded by family and loved ones, his family said.

In addition to serving as mayor from 1974 to 1975 and 1978 to 1979, Hofstede was the second Metropolitan Council chair, a Third Ward council member and president of North State Advisors. He also founded Catholic Eldercare.

Hofstede was elected at 34 year old, making him Minneapolis' youngest mayor.

"Al Hoftsede was a mayor who stood by his convictions and fought hard for Minneapolis every day," Mayor Betsy Hodges said. "He was kind, and a friend to me. I will miss him very much."
